More About This Title A Family for Zoya

English

This heartwarming true story follows Zoya, the only surviving cub of critically endangered Amur tigers at the Philadelphia Zoo. After her mother rejects her, dedicated zoo staff race to find her a new family. They discover Lola, a Sumatran tiger who has just given birth to three cubs at the Oklahoma City Zoo, and venture out with Zoya to try something that has never been successfully done before. Zoya is transported across the country to meet Lola. The zookeepers anxiously wait to see how Lola will respond to this unfamiliar cub. Will she accept Zoya into her den? Will Lola have enough milk for all four cubs? Will Zoya adapt to her new family, even though she looks and acts differently? As Zoya grows, her story is marked by moments of uncertainty and hope, leaving animal lovers to wonder what the future holds for her and the survival of her species. Her remarkable journey highlights the profound bonds that unite all creatures and underscores the vital importance of conservation efforts. After meeting Zoya and reading her story, continue on for more fascinating facts about Amur tigers and learn how the Tiger Conservation Campaign and Tiger Species Survival Plan® contribute to their future. Discover how fresh genes can be introduced into the wild population to make them healthier, efforts to reduce poaching, and how villagers are helping to build tiger-proof pens for their farm animals! The author is donating 100% of her proceeds from A Family for Zoya to the Tiger Conservation Campaign.

"There are many amazing animal stories that highlight the brilliant, life-saving work that AZA-accredited zoos accomplish every day. Zoya’s story in particular shows how humans can work
together to save wildlife. I believe sharing this story will inspire the next generation of conservationists to do their part to protect the natural world."

—Philadelphia Zoo President & CEO Dr. Jo-Elle Mogerman

“Zoya’s story demonstrates the important collaborative work between different AZA-accredited institutions to help save endangered animals. Through this process, Zoya was not only able to find a family of her own but learned how to be a great mother herself. We at the Roosevelt Park Zoo hope that Zoya’s story inspires others to love and protect the natural world around them.”

—Roosevelt Park Zoo Director & Veterinarian, Dr. Logan Wood

"A Family for Zoya beautifully melds compassion for endangered animals with their plight in the wild. The collaboration between the Philadelphia Zoo, Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, and Roosevelt Park Zoo, all AZA-accredited members, made it possible for Zoya to thrive throughout her life and to advance her species. We are grateful for the author’s contributions to conservation and encourage readers to learn more about AZA’s signature conservation program, SAFE: Saving Animals from Extinction, at www.aza.org/safe."
