More About This Title Little Fish of Notting Hill

English

An action-packed middle-grade novel with a thrilling war-time backdrop and a sparky, unusual heroine, Little Fish introduces a fascinating period of British history to young readers and is sure to appeal to both boys and girls. Covering important themes such as bullying, this story will have a positive influence on children, not only inspiring them to read more, but to have compassion for others. And with bullying on the increase, this story will give children the courage to stand up to bullies, and even make the bullies themselves more aware of their negative actions.

Meet seven-year-old Little Fish—the tiny heroine with a big heart and a mighty intellect.
A series of remarkable events in her simple life during World War Two mean that Little Fish steps in to help fellow evacuees and, at the request of Sir Winston Churchill himself, she must reassure a country in great despair.

Little Fish (nicknamed due to her size) is an avid reader and especially loves detective novels. Her greatest wish is to be the next Hercule Poirot. When her father flees to France to fight in the war and a local man goes missing, Little Fish has her first case to solve. But by 1941 Britain is in the midst of the Blitz and Little Fish is amongst the many children sent to live in the countryside. Scruffy, her lifelong canine companion and fellow ‘detective’ is by her side during all of her adventures, including the bombing of a children’s school, an invitation to Churchill’s secret hiding place and a secret mission to Dunkirk to find her missing father. Will Little Fish and her family survive the War, and will the case of the missing Notting Hill man ever be solved?
