This book is an advanced approach to power electronics specifically in terms of renewable energy systems and smart grid. The fourteen chapters are updated and extended versions of the invited papers in the Proc. IEEE special issue of November 2017, contributed by a group of invited authors who are international authorities in their field. The application-oriented chapters are tutorial oriented, with technology status review. The book also includes examples of applications and discussions of future perspectives.

BIMAL K. BOSE, PhD, (Life Fellow, IEEE) is an Emeritus Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He held the Condra Chair of Excellence (Endowed Chair Professor) in Power Electronics at the same university for 15 years (1987-2002), where he was responsible for organizing the teaching and research program in power electronics. Concurrently, he was the Distinguished Scientist (1989-2000) and the Chief Scientist (1987-1989) of U.S. Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) sponsored Power Electronics Applications Center (PEAC) in Knoxville. He is the editor of the Wiley title Power Electronics and Variable Frequency Drives (1996).
