More About This Title City of the Future: Sustainability in Macro Scale

English

Over the past decade, several studies have focused on the degradation of the urban environment, with a focus on sustainable development. How can the goal of creating a sustainable urban future be achieved through architecture and urban planning? That is the critical question at the heart of this book. A conceptual framework is being developed, based on the environmental planning literature and parameters that contribute more than others to sustainability (eg urban density, land use, green spaces, bioclimatic architecture, transport) . Moreover, in architecture and town planning, land use must become a major decision when designing an edifice or an urban surface, since the environmental consequences of this fundamental choice are neglected. In conclusion, the increase in global temperature between 1 and 5 degrees predicted by the climate scenarios could lead to potentially catastrophic environmental impacts and therefore buildings and urban spaces need to be adapted in order to cope, Future scenarios. Case studies in Europe serve as examples for the implementation of the theoretical framework in the fields of regional and urban planning with the aim of creating a useful empirical index to quantify the sustainability of the city.
