JOEL S. HIRSCHHORN, PhD, is a world authority on clean technology and powder metallurgy. Following a distinguished academic career at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he joined the Office of Technology Assessment of the United States Congress, where he effectively championed environment and pollution issues. He is now President of EnviroSearch-East, an environmental consulting firm in Washington, D.C. KIRSTEN U. OLDENBURG, MA, an expert on materials policy, the environment, and pollution prevention, has been the coauthor of seven key Office of Technology Assessment of the United States Congress reports since 1983. She is also the author of numerous articles on pollution prevention and other related topics and has been selected to manage a pollution prevention project for an international environmental organization.
