HOWARD MARK, PhD, is an independent consultant in the areas of statistical data analysis, chemometric instrument calibration, and software and hardware development. Formerly with Technicon Industrial Systems, he became prominent for his work in the application of statistics and chemometrics to near-infrared analysis and the design and development of spectrometers. He is the author of more than 90 papers, including the popular series of articles "Chemometrics in Spectroscopy" and "Statistics in Spectroscopy," which has been reprinted in book form.
