English

LARRY A. COLDREN is Professor in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is also Director of the Optoelectronics Technology Center, an ARPA Center that also includes faculty at Cornell University as well as the San Diego and Los Angeles campuses of the University of California. He is the author of numerous publications and holds patents in the areas of ultrasonic signal processing devices, III-V microfabrication techniques, and various laser-related technologies. He is a member of several honor societies, received the Best Paper Award of the 1979 IEEE SU Transactions, and is a Fellow of the IEEE and OSA. SCOTT W. CORZINE, PHD, is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His graduate work involved the theoretical and experimental investigation of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, and he has authored many papers and articles in the field. He has also contributed a chapter to a book on quantum well lasers dealing with the theory of optical gain in semiconductors. He is currently employed at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, California.
