That family farming can meet the Zero Hunger Challenge launched at the Rio + 20 Summit in 2012 is the thesis behind this collection of papers, rich in data and content on issues relating to India and the larger Asia Pacific context. Presented as background for the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation commemorating 2014 as the International Year of Family Farming, these papers emphasize the fact that family farming is both a way of life and a means to sustainable livelihood.


An intergovernmental organization, FAO has 194 Member Nations, two associate members and one member organization, the European Union. Its employees come from various cultural backgrounds and are experts in the multiple fields of activity FAO engages in.
