More About This Title Feet First

The one thing we all have in common is that each of us wants to be happy. Yet for so many of us, happiness is always ‘out there’ somewhere and we spend our whole lives in search of it. Too many of us live a life of reaction, totally engulfed in dealing with all the daily complications that hit us in waves. Passion wanes and life becomes more about survival than thriving. We feel tired and cranky, succumbing to the pressures of daily life. Many perceive themselves as a failure with a future that is uncertain and scary. Everything seems out of our control. Maybe we sound like we are talking about other people . . . we are not. That was us, two ordinary blokes, until about ten years ago. We had spent our entire working life seeking success personally and in business. On the outside, to most, we had succeeded in both. We had successful businesses and achieved many milestones and accolades. On the inside, though, it was a different story. We struggled to find purpose in our lives. Our businesses felt stuck. We were not happy. Our lives have been filled with many highs and lows. One low in particular, Greg Gunther thought he’d never recover from. He kept it secret while it devastated him for years. But his journey wasn’t over. For Troy Parsons, despite his professional success as a Podiatrist, his business owned him and very nearly broke him. From the depths of depression, where he could see no path forward other than to quit and walk away, a chance meeting with Greg Gunther would turn his life and business around in dramatic fashion. Today we have over forty years’ experience in corporate and small business ownership between us. Through all that, life has provided us with many lessons that we now have the opportunity to share with others. We totally believe that we all have access to happiness in our own lives. It’s the pathway to that happiness that eludes so many of us. That’s why we wrote this book. We invite you as you read, to peer over our shoulders, walk with us as we share our stories, and get inspired as you journey through your own path to success.

Greg Gunther’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited from a young age after watching his father build a successful property
business. Passionate to emulate his father’s legacy, he became a founding member of the Dalby Agricultural
College before building out the largest and most lucrative region for manufacturing corporation Incitec.
In the background, his father was pushing Greg to establish his own business. After many attempts, Greg went into
partnership with his dad, buying a 50% share of a family owned car rental company. But he hadn’t completed his
due diligence. His lack of research saw the business go bust quickly and he and his father lost everything. It was an
important business lesson and one he carries into his work today.
The failure of his first business venture wasn’t going to hold Greg back. He invested in a growing financial services firm and within three years expanded his territory from zero to 200 clients. Driven for more, Greg procured his license. He took on a partner, established Gunther Doyle Financial Planning and in less than six years merged with two other companies to create the largest privately-owned financial planning firm in Australia with $5M in revenue.
His dream, though, was to create a company that did not rely on him solely and in 2006, established Greg Gunther & Associates offering advisory services to business owners.
In 2014, a former colleague joined Greg’s firm. Within two years the pair joined forces, rebranding the business to Your Business Momentum—a consulting firm helping clients break free from the daily grind. In addition, Greg became the Co-Founder and Director of The Podiatry Hive; working with podiatry practitioners to build more profitable and effectively managed practices.

Throughout high school, Troy experienced a multitude of injuries from a wide variety of sports. He tried everything
from GP, physio, chiro, and magnets with little success. Then one day while getting fitted for school shoes the
man serving him commented that he had very poor lower limb alignment and that he should see a podiatrist. So
impressed with the result, he researched the profession and the rest, as they say, is history.
Having been in the industry for 12 years, Troy is particularly interested in biomechanics, alignment issues,
sport/lifestyle related injuries and pediatrics. His career highlight was being one of 20 podiatrists nationwide
appointed to the medical team at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Troy is proud to own a successful and growing practice and strongly believes your feet are your independence. They are commonly neglected and the significance of the feet and lower limb is commonly overlooked. He loves helping people get over their injuries, improving their quality of movement and optimizing their performance.
Special interest in running assessments, technique correction, injury prevention and performance enhancement.

"This book is a revelation...pure and simple. So often we see business books that expound wonderful philosophies on
how to forge a successful path yet we are not taken on the journey of where that individual came from...their
challenges, frustrations and their missteps. In this raw and real insightful tome, Troy and Greg offer us that
opportunity. We see two people just like you and me, that started as many of us do, doubting too many times that
road ahead, yet they give us the inspiration that you, me, everyone can achieve the extraordinary. Many thanks
Gentleman and well done."

“Feet First written by Greg Gunther and Troy Parsons features the transparent journey of two Aussie guys who set out to improve both of their lives through their respective businesses and inadvertently have influenced the podiatry profession on a global scale. When the book first arrived and I saw the title ‘Feet First’ I wondered how it would connect to the story and having read the book it made me realize that the important thing in life is to take that first step bravely overcoming that first initial fear which gives you the courage to take on the next. All podiatrists could most definitely benefit from reading this book. Too many of us can stay absorbed in the past, however, Greg and Troy’s story shows how one can use adversity as a way to move forward!”
Award Winning Podiatrist, Dundee, Scotland

“Feet First is so much more than a business book. It's a real-life journey through failure and success that resonates with so many of us. This inspiring read appeals to all who have always searched for a way to be successful in both business and life. We CAN have it all. For me personally, it has taught me patience and calmness through life
regardless of where we are in our business or personal journey. There will always be a way through the toughest of times and we come out stronger, having grown more than we could have ever imagined.“

“Disarmingly frank and extremely relatable, Feet First provides an absorbing case study of business transformation and ultimately, achieving personal success. Illuminated through complementary perspectives, Feet First is a very human story that turns roadmap. The authors’ fascinating journey of self-discovery will doubtless educate and inspire public practitioners and small business owners alike to reassess and improve their own situation.”
Author of Your Professional Headspace

“This is the kind of book that sticks with you. Greg and Troy get completely transparent as they share their stories, allowing you to learn from their successes and failures and apply those lessons to your own life. Those changes made an immense difference in their own lives and could do the same for yours.”

“Feet First is a really vulnerable look into the world of two amazing entrepreneurs. Troy runs a really successful Podiatry practice and Greg runs a very successful coaching business and both of them run an amazing business together helping health practitioners. For me, the book was real and honest. It shares the highs and the lows on the
entrepreneurial journey and imparts you with significant wisdom about leading a life full of adventure and how to run a multimillion-dollar business. The book is very unique and brings you on the journey before Troy and Greg meet, to the transformation Greg helped Troy experience running his podiatry practice, to the future of their new mission working together helping other companies experience the same shifts. Having coached business owners for 17 years, this book is refreshing with its honesty, and so impactful of useful tips and ideas to help you succeed not just in business, but also in life.“
