She has taught undergraduate classes in developmental disabilities and mental health and graduate level courses in family therapy, parent education, classroom discipline and psychological education. Marie Hartwell-Walker is a psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist. She holds a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute in Chicago, and a Masters and a Doctorate in Humanistic Applications of the Social and Behavioral Sciences from the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has led workshops about a wide variety of topics for professional associations, agencies, parent organizations, school systems and marriage retreats. She has been an advice columnist and feature writer for newspapers and periodicals since 1978.
