This seventh edition in the internationally acclaimed State of the Nation series from HSRC Press is a significant contribution to the debates around the impact of 20 years of freedom and democracy on South Africa. Muxe Nkondo is a member of Council of Freedom Park. Francis B Nyamnjoh is professor of Social Anthropology at the School of African and Gender Studies, Anthropology and Linguistics, University of Cape Town. Daniel Plaatjies was the executive director of the Democracy, Governance and Service Delivery research programme at the Human Sciences Research Council, Cape Town.
