More About This Title Tango


Tango developed amid Buenos Aires’s tenement-district immigrant communities, its music, lyrics, and dance reflecting the experiences of these working men who built the city. This book examines tango as a popular expression of their socio-political conditions.


Gustavo Varela is a professor of philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires. He has led numerous courses and workshops throughout Argentina. His other books include Mal de tango and Tensiones filosóficas.
