The main character Mio is an innocent and cute office lady; however, she was fired one day and without any other choices, she inherited the old shop from her granny. The shop which situated in Setagaya district is a Doll House that almost facing its close down. While Mio is worried about how to manage to maintain the shop, two saviors appears: one is Tominaga who is crazy about dolls, and another is mysterious character Shimura who can fix any kinds of dolls.
Three people get together to run the Tamasaka Doll House, and to their surprise, more and more customers are coming back. There is no exception that every doll has its own story before they come to Doll House, teddy bears, puppets, French dolls, fluffy dolls, luxurious dolls, and so on. And no matter how touching, freaky, horrible, scary, sad, or fantastic stories there were, their owners concern about them.
The settings of characters in the book are realistic and funny. It makes people feel like they want to know these weird guys personally. Mio cares about her age so much; however Tominaga always wants to make fun of her age. On the contrary, Shimura seems to be insensible and dull on everything. The interaction among these three characters makes the story fascinated in many ways. The writer seems to have very deep understanding towards dolls according to his description in the story.
Many readers are even curious about whether he himself is the original image of Tominaga. The whole story settings and backgrounds are knowledgeable and complete, so it is a pity to have only one single edition. Many readers therefore expect the writer to develop it into series, and some of them even make a recommendation list of characters for television version of it. Born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1964, Tsuhara Yasumi graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University, Department of International Politics and Economics. In 1989, he used the name 津原やすみ(TSUHARA YASUMI) to become a girl novelist. The name sounds neutral in terms of gender, so many readers misunderstand that the writer is a female. After he published “The Magic Whispers”, he officially resigned from his position as a girl novelist. In 1997, he used another name 津原泰水(TSUHARA YASUMI) to publish “City of Evil” and became a remarkable young fantasy novelist. In 2006, he made use of his memory from high school life to publish “Brabant” and attracted people’s attention. Besides these publication, he also has some novels about video game by the name “HYAKUTAKE HOSHIO”.
