Despite being a gifted writer and being reared in a loving family, a series of unfortunate events, peer pressure, and poor decision-making, lured him to the mean streets and the dangerous drug trade. Over the course of several years his lifestyle led him to being self destructive while being arrested several times. Determined not to be a statistic in the penal system, he sought help to overcome his addiction and venture into the legitimate work force.
His big break came when The Home Depot employed him in 1995 in which he was paid well in addition to receiving good benefits. The new and job and lifestyle weren't the only endeavors he would embark upon but also he would rekindle the flame of his first passion - writing. After seeing the movie "Dangerous Minds", featuring Michelle Pfeiffer as a high school teacher 'civilizing' a body of predominantly AA and Latino students, he took the issue with the film and wrote an editorial to the local newspaper.
To his surprise the article was published the following week. Subsequent to his 1st published report he continues writing editorials for other newspapers including the Philadelphia Daily News and The Inquirer. Upon the suggestion of a friend to write a Mob story featuring Black characters he undertook the task immediately and learned about the business of the book publishing industry.
His aim was clear. In addition to writing a novel, which would target American males, he assumed the social responsibility of constructing a tome that would be honest, real, and has integrity. Also the ultimate goal was to effect positive changes against illiteracy within the Black community and give a truthful glimpse to a world often misrepresented (drugs).
The arduous task resulted in Antonne starting Clear Vision Publishing, then releasing his first novel The Family - A Philadelphia Mob Story followed by The Family II: Life After Death, La Familia (Spanish) and The Lex Street Massacre book and documentary which was submitted to The Sundance Film Festival in 2008.
To date, he has sold over one- hundred fifty thousand copies and topped the charts of several bestseller lists. He is often credited as being a pioneer in the urban book craze along with fellow Philadelphian Terri Woods and Sista Souljah
Many high schools, social agencies, law enforcement and youth programs such as City Year - a National Youth Program, have embraced his work. The accolades continue for Mr. Jones. In addition to being featured in National Magazines, radio, and television, he recently received an Honorary Citizens Award in Lubbock, TX.. He currently resides in New Jersey with his wife and daughter. «View Less
