My writing and photography generally has been environmentally oriented, with emphasis on conservation of wilderness and wildlife worldwide. My past books have ranged in topics from African elephants to mountain gorillas to Siberia's Lake Baikal, to Alaska and Rocky Mountain conservation issues.
Some of my books have received excellent reviews from the New York Times Book Review, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal. Some of my publishers include Viking Press, Reader's Digest Press, Rand McNally, Sierra Club Books. Two of my books were collaborations, one with Peter Matthiessen, the other with Russian poet/novelist Yevgeny Yevtushenko.
In a former life I was once a nuclear physicist studying nuclear reactor safety (they aren't!) and I still consider myself an expert on reactor safety. I travel extensively worldwide documenting environmental issues. I also lead photo tours/safaris to Tanzania, Galapagos Islands, Peru, Borneo, Bali, Chile and other locales. I have stories from the boondocks on my blog: http://thewildernessphotography.blogspot.com/ «View Less
I'd like to make contact with new publishers and also with literary agents (I have 3 novels well underway}.
I have well underway two memoirs: one about my days as a nuclear physicist (I once blew up a nuclear reactor deliberately); the other about my travels in documenting the world's last wild places, from Siberia to Serengeti, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and from tundra to rainforest. Both are written with a proper mix of humor and seriousness.
