I have written this book because of the need I have encountered, as an ESL teacher of many years’ experience, for reading material suitable to readers with low-level reading ability. I have used this novel in class and have had a very positive response from my students, who enjoy the realistic situations.

About this book.
This is a book which is new and different, because Stories of Lily is aimed at readers with a beginning level of English. It centres on the life of a young Taiwanese woman who is studying in Australia.
There are seventeen chapters, which are self-contained and describe the experiences of Lily, a migrant living in a multi-cultural community in the city of Melbourne, Australia.
Stories of Lily is unique, as it is aimed at readers of English with a low level of English. Nevertheless, the book is interesting and light-hearted, as well as clear and focused. The language is simple and accessible, largely restricted to the simple past tense. The stories are clear and concise; they have a positive focus, with a clear, light-hearted slant. Melbourne is depicted in a very positive light where people of all nationalities interact easily.
I feel the target audience is the young adult who may not be aware of all of the norms of Australian life. Lily and her friends encounter all sorts of situations where they must make use of everyday expressions, and which are always explained in an easy, natural way.
I hope you enjoy my work and that Pan Macmillan Australia will consider publishing my novel.
