LED ZEPPELIN POSTERS

Life of a Party Girl

By Erika-Lynn Pankiw

Timmins, Ontario a gold mining city, best known for being the home town of Shania Twain is where it comes together. Led Zeppelin Posters is comprised of thirteen chapters that end with a group of three poems for the first twelve. (Mostly about a love and to be loved.) The book commences with a quick note on music and the classic rock band that made famous.

A detailed summery of each chapter is as follows.

The First Chapter Is Titled: “Time To Think” and takes place in July of 2004, as I’m having thoughts about the family while headed home by coach for my father’s wedding and adjusting to my mother’s way of life with a woman. Funny, why is it my mother and father are both in a relationship with a female named Joy?
The Second: “First Punk Show” was a concert with Cristal my childhood best friend, Rob a tattooed, funky contacts wearing classmate, and Cole, a
skater/snowboarding crush in October of 1996 that leads to that first French-kiss and an unexpected question. The Third Chapter: “First Time With Marry Jane” is two weeks after the punk show where I have doubts about going to a pool hall before being legal drinking age to meet Celeste who left home at fifteen and her father was nowhere to be found and her sexy, well built boy-friend Dave. I take drugs for the first time, humorously continue to a restaurant and end the night at a house party.

The Fourth: “Buffalo Anquiryte” was a June of 1997 night as the sun was still out and the experience of pit parties, dangerous driving, a dangerous fifty foot abandoned mine cliff with Celeste and Dave. Do I jump or don’t I?

The Fifth: “Drunken Blue” where I forget about my youngest sister Sabrina, a party with Celeste, Mike who I knew since middle school, Rob, Andrew -a new heart-throb, and Dave in his parents basement as we listen to good music, and guitar playing. I get happy too much and the November 1997 night -drunk ends by “puking blue”.

The Sixth Chapter: “Living It Large At The Lake” was a June 1998 weekend and six of us friends where invited to Tom’s cottage. His parents are wealthy and own a transport truck dealership. The property had a white sandy beach with a big area for a fire. Only, I’m irritated by my new crush Nick paying all his attention on my best friend Celeste. I try to tell her I like Nick but, I get way too drunk and try a new drug to the extreme and pass out early.

The Seventh Is Told Like So: “A Father’s View” was a Friday night in August of 1998 with a heart-felt conversation I had with my father. We spoke about his muscle car era days with his ‘66 Chevelle 396, realizing I had common ground, and I could not answer why I act like I do. My father said the words I will have in my heard for life but, did not understand then. He, as there was a south-west breeze and the song “Babe I’m Going To Leave You” played in the basement.
“Life could be a song, once it’s over, it’s gone.” “I know, all you do is party

so much.” “Erika, listen, I have been there, you maybe having a good time now but, ten years down the line you won’t remember the time you had.”

The Eighth Chapter: “Winter Gathering” was November of 1998 when the house was clear of my folks, sisters Leona and Sabrina where home and it was time to have a party. Starting with a debate over music that led to Dave, the now ex-boyfriend of
Celeste and I went along with for two years bringing his electric guitar. Mike and I reminisced about having get together at his parents house. My youngest sister Sabrina at eleven years old takes eleven shots of tequila.

Chapter Nine: “My World Changed For Life” March of 1999, two weeks after a wild night consuming marijuana, alcohol, LSD all together, I started to feel strange. I lost track quite fast of reality. I became non-coherently ill and landed in the mental ward of the hospital for the first time. The Doctors informed my parents and myself that I had a chemical imbalance and at that time because of my age they couldn’t pin point which one. I now had to take medication for life.

Chapter The Appropriately Titled: “Led Zeppelin Tribute Night” October 2001 I was in my third semester in college living in the big city of Barrie, Ontario. My friend and classmate Randi called to invite me to a Led Zeppelin tribute concert. A group of us from school went and we were the first to smoke the green stuff right in the club. As I never been to a tribute, I was amazed how much they sounded like the band. The lead singer’s hair even resembled Robert Plant of the seventies. I could’ve been the loudest in the club.

Chapter Eleven: “Blink-182 Trip” was a vacation with my mother, her women friend Joy, sister Leona, and her friend Kassandra to Lake Huron. We stayed at The Pinery Provincial Park and we the young ones went to a Blink-182 and Sum 41 concert a short distance away in Sarnia, Ontario. We girl went to a bar and grill the same time as the guys from Blink-182 before the show. Ending with a fantasy of “what is reality” dream about a band member.

Chapter Twelve: “The Wedding” is getting back to July of 2004 where I spend time with my sister Leona at a run down bar, the experience of seeing my father re-marry, a conversation with Jeremy, the good on the eyes, son of friends of the family the Bronson’s who is a successful Architect Technician. I know, I need to always have him in my life. I also have a night with Tom and the ten days ended by leaving me out in the dirt after a surprise heated hook-up with Nick.

Chapter Thirteen The Final Instalment: “Thirties I Arrived” is adjusting to a new family lifestyle, moving back home, for the second time due to my illness and being
diagnosed with Bipolar 1, starting a career in decorating, dating, and a night on the town dancing that leads to my date and I arriving a my sister Sabrina’s apartment making way to my third decade. “Happiness is within, less a man -is my life. The search continues however, a childhood room with empty posters lingers on.”
