The Leadership Book of the Year
The book has already proven. The manager and the employee was selected as the 2008 Leadership Book of the Year by the Swedish Cooperative Union. The judge’s citation read as follows: “In its clear and thought-provoking manner, the book presents theories to support the manager in his or her day-to-day work. The author combines his own thoughts with practical and inspirational examples that are rooted in personal experiences, and explains how a solid link between “managership” and “employeeship” can be a success and efficiency factor for organisations. Concrete examples show how workgroups can create a sound work situation by developing their employeeship.”
The Leadership Book of the Year award was instituted 20 years ago, and is conferred upon the author of the book that is judged to be the best work on leadership written over the previous twelve months. The Swedish Cooperative Union is an association of 49 consumer societies comprising over 3 million members in Sweden.
A unique book
The manager and the employee is a unique book with a front cover at both ends! In one direction is the part written for managers; turn the book upside-down, and you find the part written for employees. This makes the desires and demands of one party clear to the other, and vice versa. The manager has a wish-list of qualities that describe the ideal employee: responsible, loyal, proactive, motivated and cooperative. Similarly, the employee has a corresponding wish-list for the ideal manager: confidence-inspiring, fair, open, motivating and clear. The book gives many practical examples of how both sides can be made to develop and improve their contributions to the success of the business. Total number of pages is 227.
