THE ICE PACK

THE ICE PACK

By Anita Wilson

When Fox notices his den is melting and sees ptarmigans flocking to the beach in sunshades and shorts, he knows something’s terribly amiss. He decides to take action with four friends ...

The Ice Pack presents the exciting, engaging story of a group of Arctic animal friends who band together to save their home from global warming.

Filled with full-page, colour illustrations by James Kingston-Stewart, The Ice Pack is an entertaining introduction to the complicated issue of global warming, intended to educate and delight young readers and listeners alike.

Bear, the coolest bear in the Arctic, is laid back and likes to rap. Snowy Owl is a learned bird who hunts for antiques at the North Pole flea market. Puffin, from the Sea of Ochotsk, is a fantastic cook and always well-dressed. Otter, a scientist from the Arctic Research Institute, thinks logically and has a weakness for groovy skidoos.

Harnessing all of their talents, Fox and his four friends hold an ICON (ice conference) to discover why their homes are melting.

Find out if the animals of the Arctic can unite to say “No” to global warming and save their homes.

The Ice Pack is supplemented with a teacher's pack, comprising comprehension and science activities, games, etc. as well as an English-German wordlist for bilingual teaching.

There has been a very good response to the book in schools.

The Ice Pack is the first in a series of books dealing with environmental issues around the world.
