Arriving at a large run down house located on the coast after the war. This past military occupied house is renovated to a standard to accommodate summer visitors. The writer as a six year old falls under the paddles of a paddle steamer,is rescued by a complete stranger. The writer completes the book with an epilogue as he tracks this good Samaritan down 58 years after the incident living on the other side of the world. He is a high ranking naval officer of a famous dynasty. The book is of the life and times living in the austerity period of the 1950's with all the trials and tribulations of growing up in this grand house. The book is written with humour centred around it's people,play areas, of friend and foe and a potted history of the area.
