A book about one woman's discovery into the elusive workings of the Universe. C'est La Vie is a very interesting and at times extremely humorous semi autobiographical story, which takes readers on a journey of a lifetime as it takes a glimpse at the transcendent knowledge behind every trivial and seemingly insignificant aspect of one's life.
Now think My Big Fat Wedding. This piece begins with the author narrating her story by first examing her Greek origins. As the daughter of Greek parents who migrate to Australia, she examines the difficulties faced by being born both female and Greek at that. Headstrong, opinionated and always at odds with what was considered acceptable behaviour for a 'good Greek girl.' She highlights the difficulties faced by the family as it tries to assimilate into Australian society and then when her parent's attempts to arrange a 'proxy marriage' for her fail, bringing with it shame and humiliation for both herself and her family, she subsequently takes herself off on holiday to Greece for a sojourn through the country of her birth. It is here that she discovers that morals and ideas had progressed to the extent where back in Australia, Greek parents ruled their daughter's lives and guarded their virginity, as if they were still living in the village back in the 1950's.
But dreams and aspirations sometimes have a habit of going awry as the book then takes a turn and allows you to live her experiences of finding and losing love, of reckless decisions, of joys and then utter lows as she discovers that life can inevitably throw things in your direction which cause you to stumble and fall and seriously impact your outlook on life and change it in a most profound way. But she manages to find the strength and the courage to get back up and resume her life, even though it seemed that the Universe had take away a piece of her soul and what had been so very precious in her life and those very same life experiences almost brought her to the fringes of desperation.
An inspiration for those who are in the process of making sense of their own world, this book will bring optimism and positivity and will give readers a chance to laugh and laugh often as the author narrates her story. In this uplifing read, the touches of sexy romance will also delight those readers who are diehard romantics at heart and those who inevitably seek the happy ending to the story!
