Death happens. Mostly, it happens to other people.
Felicia is an ordinary girl who gave up her dreams of being an artist for the less spiritual but financially more viable option of running an art gallery. When she is bitten by an attractive partner in the course of lovemaking, she is surprised to discover that her craving for midnight munchies includes raw steak.
When Felicia, now adapted to being a werewolf and running her own art gallery (at least when she has enough razors to cope with her body hair) discovers that both she and her clinically insane sister Julie are nephilim, the half-angel race currently being hunted down and killed, she races to save her sister from murder.
Harold, Felicia's landlord, is looking into unusual fires because their Uncle Frederick is being haunted by a child that died in one.
Then Felicia runs into Gillian, a vampire who really isn't a dog person, but is happy to accept assistance where it's offered when someone is killing off the Nephilim before God notices.
Jasfoup, a minor demon and friend of Harold's, offers some helpful advice, but why is a demon being altruistic?
Melissa begins to question her lapses in memory when she finds a skinned body in her bed.
Felicia, Harold, Gillian and Jasfoup track the killer to a nightclub, where there is an entrance to the killer's hideout: Purgatory.
Harold falls for Gillian. So does Felicia.
Felicia finds herself in mortal danger from the killer, but Harold negotiates with him by reminding him what Heaven was like before the earth was made. Frankly, it was boring.
God owes Lucifer another big one.
